Salary: £19,305.00 - £21,417.00 Pro Rata
Hours: Part-Time, 18 hours per week
Contract: Fixed-Term, ideally commencing in March 2023 for 4 months

Share your love of nature, as a learning assistant with the RSPB, by helping to deliver our outdoor learning programmes to children and students of all ages from preschool to university level. This is a great opportunity to work with the dedicated team at one of RSPB's most visited reserves within the South Downs National Park.

What's the role about?
The purpose of the role is connecting schoolchildren and young people with nature through curriculum-linked education programmes on the reserve with our learning officer and team of volunteers.

You'll maintain teaching equipment, resources and materials and outdoor learning spaces. You'll work with, lead and support volunteers when working with school groups.

As a key member of the Learning team, you will assist the Learning Officer with the development and delivery of our highly successful educational offer.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • You'll have the ability to work with and engage a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
  • You'll be a team player with abundant enthusiasm and excellent communication skills able to lead, motivate and inspire people, including volunteers.
  • Demonstrate an ability to use initiative and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • You'll have some previous teaching experience or experience of working with groups of young people in an outdoor setting or in environmental education.
  • You will have the confidence and ability to facilitate a day’s educational programme both outdoors and in the classroom with school children, class teachers and other accompanying adults.
  • You'll have a good level of general ecological and natural history knowledge.
  • Have a good understanding of Health, Safety and Child Welfare in an outdoor education setting.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Ideally, you’ll have relevant degree or teaching qualification and working knowledge of the national curriculum

The role is based at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, but you may be asked to lead visits at Pagham Harbour. Ideally you will be flexible over working days.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

We are looking to conduct interviews for this position on 23rd or 24th February 2023.

This role will require completion of a DBS in addition to the standard pre-employment checks.
