About the role
This key role is to direct and oversee all aspects of the marketing and sales for conferences, events and functions at the College, maximising revenue and building on strong foundations in attracting conferences, external events, summer schools and B&B business during the vacation periods. The Manager works closely with other departments to satisfy the requirements of external clients. They also play a key role internally with the management of bookings and advising on and supporting the holding of events by and for the College community, including academic staff and students. The ultimate objectives are to grow this important side of the College’s activities, to ensure the smooth and professional running of events and functions held at the College, and to secure good rates of repeat business and great feedback on service.
This is full-time, permanent post, working 37.5 hours a week although flexibility is a requirement as the post-holder will be required to attend events in the evenings and at the weekend. This post line-manages a team of two, comprising the Conference & Events Co-ordinator and the Accommodation and Events Co-ordinator, plus directs some of the duties of the Conference Hall Porters.
The salary is paid at point 44 on the University’s single salary spine, currently £37,473 per annum. The College offers contributory membership of the USS pension scheme with a current employer contribution rate of 21.6%, holiday entitlement of 33 days per year (inclusive of bank holidays), and there is a range of additional benefits, including free meals when on duty, free car parking where available and use of the College’s gym facilities.
About you
You will have substantial experience of working in a similar field and have demonstrable experience in sales and marketing. You will be customer-orientated, motivated to grow the conference and events business at the College and possess excellent skills in financial administration and project management. Employing a professional and positive approach, you will be adept at building strong working relationships with outside organisations in this field, including Meet Cambridge and Booking dot com as well as working with other Collegiate Conference Managers, sharing best practice.
