Salary: 
£11.15 per hour.
Hours: 35 hours per week (Additional flexible hours are also required dependent on customer demand, with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice provided).
Reporting to: Commercial Property Manager.
Location: Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre, Winlaton Mill, Gateshead.

About us

Groundwork North East & Cumbria is a charity operating across our region to mobilise practical community action on poverty and the environment. The Land of Oak & Iron, hosted by Groundwork NE & Cumbria has delivered over £5 million investment in local communities, their natural, cultural and industrial heritage.

Completed in 2018 our Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre is set within the beautiful Derwent Valley with an abundance of natural woodland and rare wildlife. It covers a 177km2 area in the Derwent Valley making it one of the North East’s most rewarding and exciting area\s to explore. At the heart of the Land of Oak & Iron is our Heritage Centre from here people enjoy a variety of events, creative workshops, guided walks & talks. You’ll find our Cafe located in the Heritage Centre, our fresh seasonal ingredients and produce have been locally sourced wherever possible to showcase what our north east region has to offer.

About the role

We have a great opportunity for a creative, passionate, and enthusiastic chef to join our kitchen team at the Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre. You will be responsible for the delivery of freshly made to order dishes to provide a high-quality café and takeaway service.

Duties will include:

  • Managing Kitchen operations.
  • Being responsible for day to day running of kitchen.
  • Monitoring and ordering stock as necessary, liaising with local suppliers.
  • Working together with our team to ensure catering requirements for our bookings and events are met.
  • Providing great customer care, which is responsive to customer feedback.
  • Ensuring catering operations meet and exceed food hygiene and health and safety guidance and good practice at all times.

Our café operates daily from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, with occasional evenings, offering a great work/life balance for catering professionals.

Our team work in beautiful location in a friendly and collaborative environment where we encourage everyone to have a voice and be part of our growth and success.

About you

You’ll have a positive, flexible and creative approach, passionate about taking local seasonal ingredients and making great quality food prepared on site, and enjoy developing new menu ideas. We’re proud of our busy café and you’ll be part of a team providing a positive customer experience for all our visitors. The money earned by our café goes directly towards supporting the aims of our Charity.
